We had the most beautiful energy in the studio this weekend. Our fourth round of Somatics for Beginners began, and nearly 100 women have now passed through this powerful container. As a somatics practitioner—and someone who’s always lived with a neurodivergent brain—it’s been the most healing thing in the world to teach what I practice, and practice what I teach.

And this week, I want to talk about something deeply personal.

Your glow.

Not your skincare glow.
Not your “she’s glowing” pregnancy glow.
Your real, biological, soul-led glow.

What blocks it?

Functional freeze.

That place where your body doesn’t feel safe enough to soften.
Where your breath stays shallow.
Where your fascia is tense and your lymph is stagnant.
Where your body says, “I can’t take any more input.”

You still go to work. You still meet friends. But deep underneath, you feel foggy. Flat. Uninspired. That’s freeze. And you can’t glow when you’re hiding.

What Freeze Mode Looks Like in Real Life

Let’s get honest. Freeze mode isn’t about laziness. It’s biology. And it might show up like:

  • Needing 3 coffees just to feel “normal”

  • Feeling unmotivated even though your to-do list is full

  • Working from bed because it feels like the only safe place

  • Overwhelmed meal defaults (mine is pesto pasta)

  • A sense of emotional shutdown, even when things are going "fine"

We’ve been sold performance-based healing. But glow—true glow—is about nervous system safety.

Why Mindset Alone Isn’t Enough

Mindset tries to talk your body into feeling safe.
Somatics lets your body show you what’s true.

And what’s true is this: when your body doesn’t feel safe to be seen, to slow down, to feel fully, you’ll do everything you can to protect yourself. Even if it dims your light in the process.

A Micro-Ritual to Start Today

Feel your fingerprints.
Notice the texture, the temperature, the sensation.

Then:
🌬 Inhale through your nose (like smelling flowers).
πŸ’¨ Exhale through your mouth (like fogging a mirror).
Repeat gently.
Optional: place your hands on your diaphragm to feel your breath deepen.

This is what nervous system healing looks like. Not big, not loud, not perfect. Just present.
